Keep repeating this cycle until you have no more streaks and you’re happy with the results you have. If you still have streaks of solidity, pop the jars back in the oven, upside down on the baking sheet, for another ten minutes, then remove and let cool, right side up, for another twenty minutes. You’ll start seeing the solidity of the color mixture fade away and a tint remain.
Add another layer of parchment paper to the baking sheet to keep this bit of color mixture from getting on the jars. TIP: There may be a small amount of the color mixture on the parchment paper so set your jars either on a cooling rack or clean parchment paper on the counter to dry. Remove from the oven and flip each jar, right side up, to cool for twenty minutes.
When the jars have dried, turn them upside down on your lined baking sheet and bake in the oven for ten minutes. Preheat your oven to 175° and line your baking sheet with parchment paper. Once all jars are fully coated and turned upside on the newspaper, allow to dry for approximately 30 minutes, periodically lifting the jar up and scraping the excess from the mouth of the jar using a wooden craft stick or paper towel. Repeat the above steps for the rest of the colors that you made. Place the jar upside down on the newspaper or parchment paper to dry. Pour the excess-colored mixture back into the dixie cup. Pour one of the colored cups of glue into a mason jar and swirl around and around until the entire inside of the mason jar is coated. TIP: Once you’ve colored your jars, you’re going to set them upside down to dry on to newspaper or parchment paper so have this ready before you start swirling. The more water you add, the fainter your final tinting will be, so don’t add too much water unless that is the look you’re going for. Stir with the wooden craft sticks until your colors are thoroughly combined.Īdd about a tablespoon of water to each color and stir again, making sure that it is mixed thoroughly. TIP: Make sure to use the ‘gloss’ mod podge or you will not have the same vibrant results. You can even mix your food color to come up with more colors, for instance, yellow and red to make orange. Color the glue in the Dixie cups, a couple of drops at a time, until you get the desired color of your choice.
